It was a dramatic moment for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the Chief Justice sworn-in as Speaker of the 8th Parliament, Hon. Alban Sumani Bagbin. The caucus of the NDC had been electrified with excitement as they take the lead in the House of Parliament with this status.
The National Communications Director for the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi Esq., felt elated with this news as their parliamentarians kept faith with their agenda to win the Speaker for their learned and respected Alban Bagbin. He took satisfaction in a popular proverb; “he who laughs last, laughs best.”
This simply tells how expectant the NDC and Sammy Gyamfi was for this outcome of the fierce contest that was fraught with chaos from the scratch. He noted via Twitter that their hard work has been rewarded.
“Our God is alive. Our hard work was not in vain. Victory at last!!! He who laughs last laughs best. Congratulations Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin, Speaker of the 8th Parliament of Ghana.”
This indeed is a major feat for the party, as they maintain their hold to push for a majority of representation in parliament. It is expected that the ceremonious swearing-in for the President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is kick-started in earnest. The 8th Parliament given the results gazetted by the Electoral Commission is simply a ‘hung’ parliament unless the independent Member of Parliament for Fomena, Andrew Amoakoh Asiamah, aligns with the NPP.
