2022 BECE: Candidate gives birth in examination hall

A candidate went into labor in the examination room while taking the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at Kechiebi R/C Centre in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.

The pregnant candidate is alleged to have started having contractions on Tuesday morning, just after arriving for the Mathematics exam.

The 17-year-old was transported to the Kechiebi CHPS Compound, where she completed the paper with the help of midwives.

Lawrence Antwi, the examinations supervisor who confirmed the incident to Adom News’ Obrempongba K. Owusu, claimed the hospital is only 100 meters away from the center and that the education director ordered her to be brought there.

For the first and second parts of the tests, she was given one invigilator to verify she fulfilled all examination requirements.

Three other pregnant candidates and five nursing mothers are also BECE candidates at his center this year, according to the supervisor.
Meanwhile, the midwife at the clinic in an interview disclosed that the candidate is in good health and that her delivery is expected shortly.
