Over 900 PPP members defect to NDC ahead of 2024 elections
According to Accra-based UTV, hundreds of Progressive People’s Party (PPP) members in the Bono Region have switched parties to the major opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
On October 18, 2023, the defection ceremony was held in Sunyani, the capital of the Bono Region, with Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the national chairman of the NDC, and PPP representatives from the area also present.
A PPP leader gave an explanation of the reasons why the 900+ member group decided to switch to the NDC.

“PPP cannot help us retrieve Ghana from the NPP, this governance is not going well (be it) in the education, health, agric and economic sectors. Things are going south and there is the need for a new leader, hence our change of mind to join the NDC because PPP cannot win power,” he said.
Asiedu Nketiah claimed that removing the NPP should be done with unity of purpose. “Kwame Nkrumah did not envision a Ghana like this; we did not need to split into factions as is the case right now; it is time for progressive forces to come together to retake the country.”
He also gave the PPP members the duty of persuading Paa Kwesi Nduom, the party’s founder and former flagbearer, to consider joining the NDC since the party will aid in the recovery of his investments that have been destroyed by the current administration.
“Talk to Paa Kwesi Ndoum, that NDC is the only group that can remove this government and it is the NDC that can help him back onto his feet and help him by way of retrieving his businesses in the short term,” Asiedu Nketiah added.
