Giant billboard of Bawumia’s tax tweet in 2015 goes up in Accra

With a tweet from Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, a pro-National Democratic Congress (NDC) influencer on X (previously Twitter) announced the installation of a new billboard.

According to searches, the massive billboard erected near Kwame Nkrumah Circle features a tweet about taxes from Bawumia, the running mate for the opposition at the time.

The article, which was published on December 2, 2015, stated: “The NDC has increased taxes as a result of the economic challenges they caused. An NPP government will act in a distinct manner.

Akufo-Addo, the principal of Bawumia, won the 2016 elections a year after the tweet was posted, and the two were sworn in as governors in January 2017.

The influencer Receipts Guy, whose handle is Bawumia, has created two billboards of this kind.

When the initial signs surrounding Accra’s Danquah Circle were taken down in late November 2023, most people on social media accused the government of being involved.

Having been chosen as the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bawumia is currently vying to become president of Ghana.

In the 2024 election, he will compete against the NDC flagbearer, former president John Dramani Mahama, and other candidates.
