NPP primaries: Video of Farouk Mahama-branded 32-inch TVs surfaces on the internet

Following the appearance on several social media sites of a video featuring many 32-inch smart TVs emblazoned with the picture of Farouk Aliu Mahama, the current Member of Parliament for Yendi, chaos broke out.

The location and timing of the video’s released on social media, but it’s being shared just seventy-two hours before the New Patriotic Party (NPP) legislative primaries.

It has brought the topic of vote-buying and ballot monetization back to life.

The movie has generated a lot of discussion and feedback, especially on X, where some users are debating the necessity and value of TV sets over Yendi development.

“Isn’t it foolishness seeing your own people suffer for years just because they’ve no portable water supply and yet spending millions to purchase televisions for votes?” Muhammad Yaasin wrote.

In the meantime, several people have marked the Office of Special Prosecutor in the video in hopes that the office will look into the MP’s possible involvement in vote-buying.

On Saturday, January 27, 2023, the New Patriotic Party will elect parliamentary candidates in constituencies where there are now Members of Parliament.

Farouk Aliu Mahama, who was first elected to the legislature in 2020, will have fierce competition from Hajia Abibata Shani Mahama Zakaria, the CEO of the Microfinance and Loans Centre (MASLOC).
