Bawumia can never beat Mahama – Ken Agyapong

Kennedy Agyapong, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) MP for Assin Central, has firmly claimed that his party has no chance of winning the 2024 elections if Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia runs as a candidate.

If the vice president were to be the party’s nominee for the 2024 presidential elections, he would, in his opinion, lose all credibility and be rejected by Ghanaians.

Agyapong stated that the vice president has lost credibility as a result of the very comment he made while the NPP was in opposition, which he made in an interview on Kessben TV on Monday, September 18, 2023.

Bawumia can never beat Mahama – Ken Agyapong

“Whether you like it or not, if you vote for Bawumia, you can’t beat Mahama… ‘If your fundamentals are weak the exchange rate will expose you,’ was I the person who made this statement?

“… the man (Dr Bawumia) went out there and said ‘when your fundamentals are weak, the exchange rate would expose you’. Has it changed? If $1 to GH¢4, you said the fundamentals are weak, then $1 to GH¢12, the fundamentals would be what,” he said in Twi.

The MP, who is one of Dr. Bawumia’s candidates for the NPP flagbearership, claimed that by criticizing the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo/Dr. Bawumia-led government’s performance, he is not breaking any laws because both he and other businessmen in the nation have suffered significant financial losses as a result of the country’s poor economic performance.

“When I say these things, people say I am controversial… when I lost some of my money, did someone tell me that I’m an NPP man so my money should be saved? If I have lost money, am I the only businessman who has lost money?” he quizzed.

The presidential aspirant said that he will defeat John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the rival party’s nominee, since he had “no baggage” like the latter and Dr. Bawumia.

He continued by saying that his criticism of Bawumia’s track record was simply to caution the party’s delegates from nominating him (the vice president) as their candidate for the 2024 elections since doing so would force the NPP into opposition.
