NPP Power Sector Better Than Mahama – Opoku Prempeh

Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has steadfastly defended the energy sector under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration, claiming that it outperforms the previous administration led by John Mahama, despite the recent wave of power outages that have affected regions around Ghana.

There has been criticism of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) from people in several regions of the nation, most notably Greater Accra, where residents have experienced disruptions from the inconsistent supply of electricity.

As appeals for a formal load-shedding schedule to facilitate preparation during the power outage have grown, ECG has dismissed these requests, arguing that there is no official “dumsor” and therefore no need for a set timeframe.

NPP Power Sector Better Than Mahama – Opoku Prempeh

Speaking to concerns during the launch of the NPP campaign team in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Opoku Prempeh emphasized the advancements made in the energy sector during the NPP government, stressing a notable improvement over the NDC administration.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh said that “the NPP administration Energy Sector is 300 times better than that of Mahama” after comparing the energy performance of the two administrations over the course of their respective four-year tenure.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh assured the people that efforts were being made to address the existing issues. He recognized the difficulties in improving the energy sector and promised his ministry would remain committed to making gradual improvements to the situation.

Dismissing the need for a load-shedding timetable, Dr. Opoku Prempeh echoed ECG’s stance and condemned the proposition, questioning the intentions of those advocating for it, stating, “Let those who want the timetable bring it. I don’t know of any timetable because the ECG has said it is not necessary. Why would someone just wish evil for the country?”
