Kennedy Agyapong has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is in power, directly of corruption.
He asserts that the theft is of such a scale that it is quite alarming and adds that the stolen money was hidden abroad.
“The way the NPP is looting this country, you will think there is no tomorrow. You steal all this money and stash same abroad, what do you mean?” he is heard stating in a video clip that has been shared widely on social media.
“The youth of this country are not working yet you are intimidating people. I will put my life on the line and defend them,” he stressed.
Agyapong, a Member of Parliament and NPP flagbearer candidate, recently charged that the NPP committed political suicide by permitting what he called a “capture” by those in positions of authority.
He has claimed, for instance, that certain regional chairmen have turned the National Council of the NPP, the organization’s main decision-making body, into a renegade entity.
Agyapong criticized Bernard Antwi Boasiako, aka Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, during the September 30, 2023 showdown walk in Kumasi for using unconventional strategies.
“Alan is being insulted on Wontumi’s station. Wontumi is just a small boy, he is a small boy. It is sad that Wontumi and five chairmen – from northern region, Volta Region – have turned the National Council into a hooliganism group,” he added.
Along with three other candidates, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh, Agyapong will run for the NPP’s flagbearer position.
The NPP has set November 4, 2023, as the date to choose a new party leader to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Ken Agyapong has spoken out about his government's alleged looting.
