You are no longer NPP members – Supporters to Alan

According to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), anyone who has endorsed independent candidate Alan Kyerematen is no longer a member of the party.

This declaration was made by General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua on Neat FM, a radio station situated in Accra.

“The Constitution is quite clear that if you are a party person and you go and support any other candidate apart from our presidential candidate, it means forfeiture of membership,” he said.

Mr Kodua noted that, he will in the coming days issue a communiqué to make an official declaration.

“The communiqué will serve as a reminder to people who have already made that move especially those who have made public declarations. So that when I start giving them letters, they will know the reason behind the action,” he said.

He did acknowledge that some individuals could not be aware of the party’s constitution, in which case they will be offered the chance to change their minds.

The NPP top scribe asserts that rather than pursuing an agenda that will cause division, party members need to be engaged in and concentrated on their joint effort to hold onto power in 2024.

This occurs only days after Hopeson Adorye, the former security coordinator at Kotoka International Airport (KIA), declared he was divided in his loyalty between the NPP and Mr. Kyerematen’s Movement for Change.

Mr. Adorye said he is a devoted member of the NPP notwithstanding his public endorsement.

However, according to Justin Kodua, things don’t operate that way.

Following the outcomes of the Super Delegates Congress, the former Minister of Trade and Industry resigned from the NPP on September 25, 2023.

Having finished third in the August 26 election, the disillusioned presidential contender announced that he will run as an independent in 2024.

Following his decision, a number of influential NPP members, including current and past MPs, criticized their backing.

However, others have sworn to support him in the presidential race and to support a legislative candidate from the NPP.
