Mahama Cuts Sod For New Jakpa Palace In Damongo

On Friday, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I and former president John Dramani Mahama joined to cut the sod for the building of a new castle for the Gonja overlord.

Mr. Mahama, who is funding the project, has promised the public that it will be finished by October of this year.

During his speech, Mr. Mahama emphasized that the Gonja’s historical roots in the Mande region of southern Mali are reflected in the new palace’s deliberate design, which is modeled after Sahelian architecture.

“So, if you look at the architecture, you will think you are in Timbuktu or Songhai, tracing the history of the Gonja people “, he said.

Numerous paramount chiefs from Guan and Gonja, executives from the Guan Congress and the Gonjaland Youth Association, members and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the locals of Damango all attended the occasion.
