Lil Win Can Go To Jail – Martin Kpebu

According to the allegations the police have brought against Kumawood actor and musician Lil Win in court, after a car accident on May 25, 2024, that left a three-year-old boy dead, Lil Win may face up to five years in prison or a fine.

Lil Win may spend time in jail on the counts of irresponsible and careless driving, according to private attorney Martin Kpebu.

Lil Win was granted bail in the amount of GHC $50,000 with two sureties after being arrested on Monday, June 3, 2024.

Speaking on the issue in a radio interview with Joy FM in Accra, Mr. Kpebu stated that although fines are usual in situations like this, jail time is also an option, particularly considering the seriousness of the accident and the 3-year-old’s death.

“In terms of penalties, imprisonment is possible, but fines are typically imposed. However, in particularly severe cases, imprisonment can occur, and it can be up to five years.”

He emphasized the necessity of harsher penalties to discourage careless drivers in Ghana, where more than 2000 people lose their lives in traffic accidents every year.

In his opinion, a harsher punishment would encourage road safety and send a clear message.

“We don’t often charge them with manslaughter.”

He said it is normally reckless, dangerous driving and others that the police normally charge them with.

“Yes, over the past decade, more than 2000 people have died annually in road accidents. Yet, we don’t see drivers being imprisoned for years.”
