The issue of Coronavirus which is gradually taking the country by storm and this has triggered the Ghana Medical Association ( GMA) to add their take on the situation by calling on the government to lockdown the country with immediate effect.
The Medical Association who wants only important services to carry on with their normal activities has emphatically stated that, even though the lockdown won’t be easy for Ghanaians there is a need for the government to embark on that exercise.
“The lockdown though not a comfortable decision for leadership and citizens alike is a proven option backed by science and along with the other measures will ultimately be in our best interest.” The GMA press release stated.
In furtherance the Association therefore pleaded with Ghanaians to adhere and support the government as the move will be of national interest. Also believes that’s one major solution to save the nation from the devastating effects of the pandemic.
Surprisingly, many Ghanaians in the past few days have taken the issue of a total lockdown to social media as they plead with the government to do so to ensure the safety of citizens and also to prevent the deadly virus from spreading.
Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah at a press conference disclosed that, based on professional expert advice it is premature to impose a lockdown in the country. On the contrary, has high hopes that, the president, His Excellency Nana Akuffo Addo will implement necessary measures when the need be.
Ghana has now recorded 68 coronavirus cases in the past few weeks which 3 have being confirmed dead according to an update from the Ghana Health Service.
