I’ll Return ‘Missing’ Excavators And Concessions To Miners – Mahama Promises

Former President and flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has pledged to return all excavators that the Akufo-Addo government confiscated, and those that are missing to their respective owners in the small scale mining sector.

The flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said the choice of electing him and the NDC into office would result in the rejuvenating of the small-scale mining sector which has seen a downtown under the Akufo Addo government.

Addressing the people of Subin in the Upper Denkyira West Constituency of the Central Region, Mr. Mahama argued that the current government under the guise of sanitizing the small scale mining sector confiscated this earthmoving equipment and concessions for its own party men to rather undertake the very activity it claimed was illegal.

“We will retrieve all those excavators and give them back to you. All those concessions that were taken and given to their families shall be returned to their rightful owners…who have the right documentation on it,” he noted.

He indicated that his quest for re-election is to correct these abuses and grant indigenous miners in the sector an opportunity to mine in a more sustainable manner.

Mr. Mahama argued that the small scale mining has the potential to offer employment to over a million Ghanaians if managed properly. He stressed that his administration will deliver a comprehensive program to support miners to do their business in a more meaningful and environmentally friendly way.
