I will reduce electricity costs with solar power – Bawumia

During his two-day tour to the Upper West Region, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president and flag-bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), emphasized his ambition to lower the cost of electricity by utilizing solar energy. He pointed out that the nation does not require foreign exchange to import sunlight, in contrast to fuel derived from oil.

In order to start his tour, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia visited the palace of Naa Fuseini Pelpuo IV, the Waala Overlord, and spoke with the chiefs and elders.

Naa Fuseini Pelpuo IV commended the Vice President’s position on LGBTQ+ matters in his welcoming speech, which was read by his spokeswoman Naa Kadir Ibrahim Jinpenhi. He also expressed confidence that he would not support LGBTQ+ causes going forward.

In addition, the Waala Overlord requested payment to the victims of military violence that took place in the Wa municipality over three years ago as a result of a purported phone theft.

“Your Excellency, almost three years ago my people were beaten by rampaging military men. The soldiers came into town beating up almost everyone in sight extensively, as revenge for the alleged theft of a mobile phone belonging to one of them.

The traumatized victims were promised compensation, and the matter brought the military high command to Wa. Three years will have passed after the regrettable event in July 2024, but the promised compensation has still not been given.

In response, the vice president promised to investigate the matter of compensation and make sure the victims receive fair recompense.

After that, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia went to the regional library to meet with Muslim clergy, outlining his plans for the nation if given the opportunity to lead.

“I believe one way we can reduce the cost of electricity is by transitioning from oil-based fuel power generation to solar power. Let’s use the sun to generate electricity instead of oil-based fuel. I plan to introduce 2000 MW of solar power. God gives us the sun for free; we don’t need foreign exchange to import the sun, but we need foreign exchange to import oil-based fuel.”

Additionally, he emphasized that large-scale mechanized agriculture supported by irrigation would be his primary goal and that it would completely change the nation. In order to enable domestic processing of crops, he pledged to increase funding for agriculture.
