Court ‘stops’ Dormaahene from attending Berekumhene’s funeral
An injunction has been issued by a Sunyani High Court prohibiting Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Nana Agyeman Badu, the Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, from taking part in the funeral ceremonies of Daasebre Dr. Amankona Diawuo II, the late Paramount Chief of the Berekum Traditional Area.
The Berekum Traditional Council’s Osabarima Kyere Yeboah Darteh II filed the lawsuit, fearing that competing attendance schedules at the funeral would disturb the tranquility. The court’s ruling came after their concerns were heard.
According to sources, the judicial intervention was necessary to prevent potential conflicts because the Dormaahene planned to attend the funeral alongside Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, at the same time.
The Asantehene is scheduled to arrive on Thursday, November 23, while the Dormaahene, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, members of the Bono Regional and National Houses of Chiefs, and other dignitaries are expected to attend a program promoted by the Berekum Traditional Council on Wednesday, November 22.
According to a report by mypublisher24.com, the Asantehene is traditionally supposed to be the last to attend the funeral because of his power to install a new chief in the Berekum Traditional Area.
The purpose of the lawsuit is to stop any possible chaos from occurring at the occasion as a result of the two paramount chiefs’ simultaneous attendance.
The Ghana Police Service has also been called upon by the court to support the enforcement of the injunction, highlighting the significance of preserving tranquility in Berekum and its environs.
