Akufo-Addo to tour areas affected by Akosombo dam spillage today

Today, Monday, October 16, 2023, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is scheduled to visit the villages that have been adversely affected by the overflow of the Akosombo dam.

The President formed a nine-person inter-ministerial team under the leadership of his chief of staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, to plan the distribution of aid to those impacted by the spill.

Following the opening of the Akosombo Dam spillways, thousands of villagers in the Central and North Tongu districts of the Volta Region have been forced to relocate.

After speaking with citizens and opinion leaders, the President is anticipated to make a significant announcement about government intervention.

The inter-ministerial committee is led by the chief of staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, and includes the ministers of national security, Albert Kan-Dapaah; interior, Ambrose Dery; defense, Dominic Nitiwul; energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh; finance, Ken Ofori-Atta; and local government, Daniel Kwaku Botwe.

Francis Asenso-Boakye, minister of works and housing, Kwasi Amoako-Attah, minister of roads and highways, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, minister of the environment, Freda Prempeh, minister of sanitation, Samuel A. Jinapor, and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, minister of information, are among the other members.
