Keep schools open despite strike by teachers – GES to headteachers

Despite the ongoing strike by three teacher unions, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has instructed headteachers of junior and senior high schools to maintain school operations while also guaranteeing the safety of pupils.

On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, the strike was initiated by three teacher unions: the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT).

Due to the government’s disregard for their terms of duty, the irate unions announced that they will giving up their weapons.

However, the GES stated in a statement that, awaiting additional instructions from GES Management, Regional and District Directors have been instructed to make sure that Heads maintain school operations and closely monitor every student who reports.
