GWCL to release more water from the Weija dam

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) management has declared that the Weija Dam’s surplus water release is about to commence.

In a letter dated March 7, 2024, GWCL said that the arrival of the rains is causing the water level to progressively rise.

According to GWCL, failing to release the dam could result in a collapse that puts lives and property in danger.

While GWCL did not provide a definitive start date for the exercise, the letter did mention that the spilling procedure will start slowly to minimize any effects on the downstream.

The actual pace of spillage would be determined by the water entering the dam, and it would continue as long as the water level rose.

GWCL has apologized for any inconveniences that could have occurred from the incident.
