Preeti often saw Rajkumar after hours, but the affair only became public after the pair was exposed by the villagers who had caught them in the act.
For a week, there had been conflict between the two villages in West Champaran as a result of Rajkumar’s relationship with Priti Kumari. Before they understood what was truly causing them, the locals were worried by the regular power outages.
“Preeti used to cut off the electricity of the village every night due to which many thefts were reported in the village. We were troubled by that girl,” a villager, Govinda Chaudhary, told India Today.
The residents often protested to the electrical department about the frequent power outages in their community, but in vain. The next time the village lights went down, the locals were astonished to see Rajkumar and Preeti together while they were investigating the cause of the issue.
The young man was beaten by the villagers; as a result, he summoned his gang and assaulted the people. A video of Rajkumar getting thrashed with sticks by villagers while his girlfriend tries to save him has gone popular on social media.

Later, residents of the two villages made the suggestion that Rajkumar marry Priti. Finally, a local temple officiated their wedding.
