Ghanaians bare teeth at GES for packed new Timetable for SHS

Some Ghanaians have gone haywire at the Ghana Education Service for a heavily packed timetable as the Education Service releases a new Academic Calendar timetable for students in our Senior High Schools.

On 31st March 2021, the GES gave Ghanaians an academic calendar and Easter celebration notice on their official Facebook page but it was reported that some of the students were asked to return home after bothering cars to their various schools. This propelled some Ghanaians to blast GES for improper planning.

Their post on 31st March is the one in your pictures below:

The Academic Calendar provided above has different dates compared to what they are providing today, 27th May 2021. For example in the previous academic calendar, SHS 3 were to start their last academic semester in July and end school in October.

But the new Academic Calendar below which was released a few hours says that the SHS 3 students will commence their last semester in May and complete school in August. The Form 2 Green Track students were also to commence their second semester on 1st July 2021 and vacate on 27th August 2021. This group even has two sessions, the second session was to their second semester on 1st November 2021 and end on 18th December 2021.

But the new Academic calendar released today indicate that the Form 2 Green students will commence their second semester on 1st July 2021 and end on 28th January 2022. Looking at the new Academic calendar below, the SHS one students are commencing their second semester on 15th September 2021 and end on 28th January 2021.

But the previous calendar in March said a different date, thus commencing on 1st September 2021 to 18th December 2021 for Green and Single Track students whilst the Gold commence on 30th June 2021 and end on 18th December 2021. Please note that the new dates are highlighted for better understanding.

These change dates seem to set confusion on social media and some Ghanaians descend on GES for improper planning again. They argued that the Free Senior High School introduced by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo seems to encounter challenges due to a lack of infrastructure. They should rather admit the challenges and solve the issue once and for all.

Check out some reactions from some Ghanaians below:

A Facebook user known as Stephen Attuh reacted that “We can only hope this would not become another erratic schedule that could be cut short of the announced durations “.

Another Facebook user known as Osman Fuseini also reacted that “Everything about education in Ghana makes basaaa. We are almost in the middle of the academic year and you are thinking of releasing another academic calendar?”
