Final funeral rites for Auntie Muni announced

The family of Hajia Imoro Muniratu has set the date for the last burial ceremonies for the well-known waakye vendor, also referred to as Auntie Muni.

Auntie Muni will be the subject of Islamic prayers (Adua) on Sunday, January 21, at the Cantonments Police Mosque.

Later in the day, Auntie Muni Waakye Joint in Labone will host a get-together for refreshments following the prayers.

On January 3, Auntie Muni’s family formally announced her demise.

The 72-year-old, who was well-known for her mouthwatering waakye, passed away that morning at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) in Accra after a brief illness.

In an interview, Auntie Muni’s son Alhassan Abdul Arafat revealed that his mother had originally been taken to the SSNIT Hospital.

Auntie Muni, though, asked to be let go.

Arafat said “After two days, we realized she was still not feeling well, so we rushed her to the University of Ghana Medical Centre for medical attention, and this morning at 3:am, she passed away.”
