Ashanti Chiefs want Otumfuo to ban campaign activities of the NPP until Wontumi is produced
A few chiefs in the Ashanti Kingdom have proposed that Otumfuo Osei Tutu, the King, forbid the New Patriotic Party from holding campaign events in the Ashanti Region until Chairman Wontumi is produced.
In addition to the prohibition, they demand that Chairman Wontumi’s Media business be shut down by the Chief of Bantama.
They contend that the Ashanti Region has shown the ruling NPP kindness and does not merit the disdain they are receiving from the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman.
“For me, I want the Bantamahene to close down his radio station. Also, I believe that it is important that the NPP be banned from campaigning in the Ashanti Region if they do not produce Wontumi.
During a meeting between party executives and the Chiefs of the Ashanti Kingdom, he stated, “They should not be allowed to lift even a flag in the Ashanti Region for their campaign so that they will be forced to produce him.”
Following allegations that he made derogatory remarks regarding the Ashanti Kingdom’s monarch during the political party’s legislative vetting process, Chairman Wontumi has been under extreme pressure.
On Monday, January 22, 2024, he was supposed to meet Manhyia, but he was unable to do so because of health issues.
He has until Monday, January 29, 2024, to come before the Chiefs.
