Ejisu By-Election: NDC Withdraws From Contesting

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), the opposition party, has made the decision not to run in the impending Ejisu Constituency by-election, which is set for April 30, 2024.

Following a brief illness, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) member of parliament for the area, John Ampontuah Kumah, passed away on March 7, 2024, prompting this decision.

Presently, the NPP is getting ready to choose a new candidate for the by-election that the Electoral Commission (EC) will oversee.

NDC Withdraws From Ejisu By-Election

The NDC’s Ashanti regional organizer, Mr. Isham Alhassan, gave an explanation for the party’s decision to withdraw from the contest, citing worries over resource waste.

He made it clear that the party’s primary focus is on the general elections that are set for December.
“I am speaking on authority that the NDC will not contest this by-election. We don’t want to benefit from [John Kumah’s] death. Looking at the time frame if the Electoral Commission does not conduct the election before May, any political party who contests this election is just causing financial loss to the party,” Alhassan remarked.

“We are winning the election for His Excellency, John Mahama, so any preparation that we have is geared towards the December election and that is our focus”, he added.
