Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang tells Barcelona who should succeed Xavi as manager

Jurgen Klopp should be the next manager of former team Barcelona, according to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

With Xavi’s recent announcement that he will be stepping down from his position, the Catalan giants will be searching for a new manager come summertime. Only nine months after leading the team to its 27th La Liga title, the Spaniard expressed to the media that he felt a change was necessary due to the rising strain he had been under in recent weeks due to a dismal run of results.

Due to exhaustion and his incapacity to perform the job “again and again and again,” Klopp will also quitting Premier League leaders Liverpool this summer. He has hinted that he might not take on another managerial position.

Although the 56-year-old made such remarks, he has been strongly associated with the Germany national team and mentioned as Thomas Tuchel’s possible replacement at Bayern Munich, should the Bavarian giants lose to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga title battle.

However, having worked under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, Aubameyang feels Barcelona should pursue Klopp after he leaves Anfield. Aubameyang is currently a player for Marseille as he approaches the end of his career.

“Klopp gives you everything, energy, he has won great titles, he is a good coach,” he told journalist Gerard Romero’s Twitch channel. “If there is a chance for Barca he is a good option.

“I was very comfortable with him in Dortmund. It would be incredible if he could come.”

Aubameyang’s career at Barcelona was relatively short and sweet, lasting just seven months, but he did make an impact in La Liga. After arriving on a free transfer – he acrimoniously departed Arsenal after being stripped of the club captaincy by Mikel Arteta – the now 34-year-old scored 11 goals in 18 La Liga games, most notably scoring a brace in a memorable 4-0 away win at rivals Real Madrid.

Even though he only appeared in one game for the team in 2022–2023—he was given a La Liga winner’s medal. He was also too excellent to pass up the opportunity to return to the Premier League with Chelsea, who were then coached by Thomas Tuchel, the previous manager of Dortmund.

In his eight and a half years on Merseyside, Klopp has won the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup, and two EFL Cups. He may leave this summer with a renowned quadruple in his trophy case, as the team is vying for both domestic cups and the Europa League title in addition to currently leading the Premier League.
