COP Alex Mensah (Rtd) to contest Bekwai parliamentary seat

Commissioner of Police (COP) George Alex Mensah (Rtd), a former director general technical of the Ghana Police Service, has announced his desire to run for the Ashanti Region’s Asante Bekwai parliamentary seat.

After 31 years of service, he announced his retirement from the Ghana Police Service.

“I’m no longer a police officer. I knew from the day I became an officer that a day like this would come. I’m happy I’ve served my country. I have so many options and it’s been a passion of mine to serve my people in the Asante Bekwai constituency. I will contest the seat,” he said on Accra-based Angel FM.

Asante Bekwai has long been a bastion of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

COP Mensah (Rtd), a well-known supporter of the NPP, would not say which party’s ticket he will run on.

First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Joseph Osei Owusu, better known as Joe Wise, now holds the position. He might not run in the general elections of 2024.
