Chelsea star Kai Havertz complains about Cristiano Ronaldo-style pressure

Kai Havertz has complained about the expectations placed on him following his big-money move to Chelsea last year. Havertz joined the Blues from Bayer Leverkusen on a five-year contract in September and says his £72million price tag made people expect Cristiano Ronaldo-level performances.

Chelsea broke their transfer record to sign the German international, with club director Marina Granovskaia immediately hailing him as “one of the best players of his age in world football”.

The 22-year-old forward made a slow start in west London under Frank Lampard’s management, but has gradually settled in English football.

He managed nine goals and as many assists in 45 appearances across all competitions in his debut season, with his best moment arriving when he netted the only goal in Chelsea’s 1-0 Champions League final win over Manchester City last month.

Havertz is now preparing for Germany’s Euro 2020 campaign, which begins this evening against favourites France.
