Alan Kyeremanten should build a church, he’s too peaceful

Various Ghanaians have responded to Mr. Alan Kyeremanten’s unexpected announcement that he will not run for the New Patriotic Party’s flag bearer position in the November 4 election to represent the party in the 2024 elections.

The caller who talked to Berla Mundi during a live phone-in program on New Day on TV3 Ghana said that Mr. Kyeremanten’s calm posture would be more effective in the temple of God than in Ghanaian politics.

“He should go and build a church I don’t see him as that kind of a politician. He is too peaceful. He is a man of God, he doesn’t like trouble”.

The caller was upset at the peaceful tone of Alan Kyeremanten when his agent got beaten, adding that he should have gone the Kennedy Agyapong route and threaten a ‘showdown’.

“His agent was beating, his face was swollen and bloody, and you hear him saying I don’t like those things, let us not repeat it” He should have also threatened a showdown.

Kennedy Agyapong is a typical politician; the NPP needs someone like that, not Alan Cash. Instead, the caller suggested that Agyapong go build a church.

On September 5, 2023, Mr. Alan Kyeremanten made a statement announcing his decision to withdraw from the New Patriotic Party’s presidential election.

He noted the party’s system, which is designed to favor one candidate.

“After having carefully analysed the results of the said elections, it is absolutely clear to me from events leading to, during and after the elections, that the Special Delegates Conference was strategically and tactically skewed in favour of one particular Aspirant”

“The pronouncements made by some leading Members of our Party both before and after the elections, also lend weight to my observations,”

Mr. Kyeremanten cited the violence unleashed on his party agents and the lack of interest by the party hierarchy to address it as part of the reasons for quitting.

“The level of intimidation of varying intensity, directly and indirectly unleashed on a significant number of Delegates at various Voting Centers across the sixteen regions, is unprecedented in the history of our Party. In addition, the fact that my Polling Agent in the North East region has suffered severe damage to his eye sight, arising from his bold and courageous effort to ensure compliance with the very rules and regulations for the conduct of the elections as approved by the Presidential Elections Committee, will forever remain a dark spot in the history of internal elections within the Party. This incident and various acts of violence and collusion, reported in other Voting Centers,
are appalling, unconscionable, and despicable.

Mr. Kyeremanten said the safety of his supporters is paramount and would not compromise on it, stressing the posturing of the party does not give him confidence to continue being in the race.

“Regrettably, I am not convinced that the circumstances I have referred to earlier, will not persist or even be escalated in the next round of elections, for which balloting is scheduled for Wednesday, 6th of September 2023.”

“I am committed to, and value the safety of those who work with me and for me, and I will always fight for their interest.”

The New Patriotic party (NPP) had originally scheduled September 6 as day for balloting but due to Mr. Kyermanten and other unresolved matters, the NPP has postponed it until all concerns are addressed.
