Kan Dapaah sues Barker-Vormawor for alleged bribery and demands GH¢10 million

Kan Dapaah, the Minister of National Security, has filed a lawsuit against Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the #FixTheCountry Movement’s organizer, on the grounds that Barker-Vormawor claims National Security and other government officials met with him in 2021 and offered him money to allegedly quiet him.

Barker-Vormawor made the accusations after being freed by the police on September 22 after being detained for organizing a rally in Accra in violation of a police-secured restraining order.

Among other things, Kan Dapaah requests in his lawsuit that the court rule that Barker-Vormawor’s remarks are defamatory.

He is also demanding the “recovery of the sum of Ten Million Ghana Cedis (GHC10,000,000.00) as General Damages including Aggravated and/or Exemplary Damages for Defamation for the words uttered by Defendant.”

In addition, he wants the offending comments to be apologized for, retracted, and “a perpetual injunction restraining the Defendant from repeating similar or other defamatory words against the Plaintiff.”

According to Mr. Barker-Vormawor, he was given a tempting sum of $1 million and other alluring jobs in government in exchange for stopping this activism that was allegedly casting the administration in a negative light.

The activist had asserted that he had proof of his assertion, but he hasn’t yet made the data available to the public.

In a statement on September 22, 2023, the Ministry of National Security refuted the assertions.
