BECE: Four teachers picked up for assisting students at Bekwai – WAEC

Four teachers at Bekwai in the Ashanti Region have been found to be involved in test malpractice, according to the West African test Council (WAEC).

Beginning on Monday, July 8, at multiple locations around the nation, the Basic Education Certificate Examination has gone smoothly and peacefully despite multiple cautions from stakeholders, including President Akufo-Addo, urging applicants not to engage in exam malpractice.

Speaking to the media following media observation at a few testing locations, Wendy Addy-Lamptey, Head of WAEC’s National Office, urged pertinent parties to sanction students in order to prevent cheating.

She acknowledged that things had gone mostly smoothly and peacefully, but she did mention a few instances, including some Obuasi-Bekwai teachers who had been found helping candidates.

She said, “With regard to the conduct itself, I think we’ve had good conduct this morning and again this afternoon. I must say that we have just had a few reports. We have had a few people picked up, some teachers picked up in Obuasi, Bekwai, trying to help the candidate.

“About three or four of them, but as I said, we just had a report, so the details of it will be coming and then we’ll put it out.”
