Atletico Madrid star Marcos Llorente responds to Manchester United interest

Marcos Llorente insists he is happy at Atletico Madrid but admits ‘anything can happen in football’ following an offer from Manchester United.

The 26-year-old played a key role under Diego Simeone last season, scoring nine times and registering eight assists as Atletico clinched the Spanish title ahead of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

AS reported in April that United are firmly among his admirers, contacting the club and offering a deal worth €80 million (£68.5m).

It was reported that Llorente’s desire was to remain in Spain with the player now appearing to confirm that plan – while also leaving the door open for a move later down the line.

‘I have many years left,’ Llorente told AS.

‘My idea is to continue, I’m fine, I’m happy at Atlético de Madrid. We have had a great season winning the League.

‘Anything can happen in football, but I don’t think about that kind of thing. I am happy and now I am with the national team.’

United are already in talks with Atletico over a move for Kieran Trippier.
