Alan promises to review free Shs when elected as president

Former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has stated he will reconsider the Free Senior High School (SHS) program if elected President in the 2024 elections.

In an interview with UTV on Tuesday, Mr. Kyerematen stated that after seven years of implementation, the program should be reviewed, even though he applauded the NPP government’s efforts to increase access to education through the Free SHS policy.

Mr. Kyerematen continued by outlining his goals for the educational field and stressing the importance of a thorough evaluation of the Free SHS policy.

Alan promises to review free Shs when elected as president

“I will review Free SHS, we have done it for seven years, You cannot implement a programme for seven and not review it, so when I come there will be a comprehensive review of the free SHS. The original idea is good, and I commend Akufo-Addo for it, but it has to be reviewed,” Mr Kyerematen said.

The quality of education that children get will also be maintained and improved, he stressed, adding that his government will make sure that the policy assures access to school.

Mr. Kyerematen went on to describe his strategies in further detail, emphasizing the necessity of greater investments in infrastructure, teacher preparation, and curriculum creation.

He emphasized the significance of developing a comprehensive educational system that equips pupils to face both academic and real-world issues.
