Akosombo Dam spillage: Gov’t outlines six-month resettlement plan for victims

A resettlement initiative for villages impacted by the Akosombo Dam leak has been launched by the government.

The Ministry of Works and Housing is leading this project, which aims to give people whose homes were devastated by the floods new homes.

The floods affected almost 5,200 families in 19 districts along the Volta River in the Eastern, Greater Accra, Oti, and Volta Regions, according to data from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the minister of works and housing, stated that the resettlement project will take six months to complete.

“The construction of the resettlement homes is going to take some months and nothing less than about six months for us to make some significant headway in this exercise and we ask for everyone’s patience as we go through it. We are already starting about a hundred and our final validation will give us the backstock numbers.”
