Official: Alan Kyerematen resigns from NPP

Former presidential candidate Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has left the NPP, which is currently in power.

His choice comes after he withdrew from the NPP presidential contest, claiming anomalies in the election, unjust treatment, and bias at the meeting of superdelegates.

He claimed that if he remained in the campaign, he felt that the problems he listed would recur in the final November 4 primary.

“Under the circumstances and given the context provided, I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honorably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party (NPP)” he said in an address to the nation about his political future at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra.

Many were surprised by Mr. Kyeremanten’s success in the first exercise, which narrowed the field of candidates for the general election in November to only five. At the time, he was seen as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s major rival for the vice presidency.

However, following Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, he finished third with 95 votes or 10.82% of the total number of ballots cast.

Many had conjectured that Alan may think about leaving the dominant party, but the NPP adamantly disagreed.

But Mr. Kyerematen has now revealed that he would run against the NPP candidate in the general elections in 2024.
