5 players Real Madrid could sell to Newcastle amid their new ownership

The new owners have an estimated net worth of 434 billion euros, making the Magpies the richest club in the world, according to MARCA. A new era awaits Newcastle and the fans can finally dream of signing top professionals from the biggest clubs in Europe and assembling a squad that can dominate English football.

In light of Newcastle United’s takeover, I’ve come up with a list of Real Madrid players that the Magpies can consider signing either in the January transfer window (which is unlikely) or in the next summer transfer window after the completion of the 2021-22 season.

JESUS VALLEJO- CENTRE BACK
While I mean no disrespect to Jesus Vallejo as a footballer, I doubt there’s any Real Madrid fan in the world that wants the Spaniard to continue at the club. Vallejo is just not cut from the cloth that’s required to be a Real Madrid player, honest truth.

Carlo Ancelotti certainly does not have the 24-year-old in his plans and would most likely even use Ferland Mendy (who is a left-back) as a centre-back over Vallejo in an emergency situation. Jesus Vallejo does not have a future at Real Madrid and it would be only wise for all parties to agree for a transfer.

Now, why would Newcastle United want Vallejo? Well, that’s a good question. While he’s certainly not a generational talent or an exceptional centre-back, he does have quite a good CV. He’s won the Champions League with Real Madrid, he’s played for the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Steve Bruce needs an experienced centre-back in his team, and although Vallejo does not exactly meet the requirements, he does have a strong shot at being a potential signing. Newcastle United would not have to spend a large chunk for the 24-year-old and could focus on using the rest of their financial resources on other positions and signings.

BORJA MAYORAL- STRIKER

Just a season ago, Borja Mayoral was having the best individual season of his career at AS Roma while on loan from Real Madrid. Mayoral claimed that Zinedine Zidane wanted him to stay at the Spanish capital over Luka Jovic but the Spaniard wanted a more important role and departed for Rome.

He scored 17 goals in all competitions in his debut season with AS Roma but has now fallen down the pecking order under his new manager, Jose Mourinho. Mourinho brought in Tammy Abraham from Chelsea who has been excellent in front of goal, thus limiting Mayoral’s minutes.

The 24-year-old striker is on a contract until 2024 with Real Madrid but faces a bleak future due to the competition at the club. At Roma, the Serie A giants have the option to purchase Borja Mayoral in 2022.

But due to the competition at Roma, Mayoral might consider a move to Newcastle United. He is undoubtedly a talented striker and given Callum Wilson’s injury record, the Magpies could do with a clinical striker like Mayoral who would also come at an affordable price tag. He also has a pretty impressive CV after winning the Champions League with Real Madrid and playing an important role for Roma last season.

EDEN HAZARD- FORWARD

Eden Hazard looks to have suffered yet another injury in his career. The 30-year-old can’t seem to catch a break from injuries after he was taken off against France on Thursday evening in the UEFA Nations League fixture.

There’s been no official report yet on Hazard’s condition but it does look like an injury. If it is indeed another long-term injury, Eden Hazard’s dream move to Real Madrid could be wrapped up in an unfortunate manner.

Los Blancos have been patient with their record signing after spending 100 million euros in 2019. So far Eden Hazard has not lived up anywhere close to the price tag and this could be his final season to redeem his career.

But if he once again fails to turn it around, he could well truly be on his way out. He’s already fallen down the pecking order with Vinicius Jr now being the first choice and his time at the Spanish capital seems numbered.

Newcastle United could view Eden Hazard as a marquee signing. He would be a perfect signing to bump ticket revenue and merchandise sale due to this popularity in England and around the world. Hazard is also accustomed to the Premier League and he could possibly find his best form once again in the league which he once dominated.

LUKA JOVIC – STRIKER
I recently wrote an article on the pros and cons of playing Luka Jovic and Karim Benzema together, which you can read here. The 23-year-old has been assured a more important role under Carlo Ancelotti who plans on using him when Karim Benzema needs to rest.

While Jovic continues to wait for his opportunity to start, in truth the Serbian international does not have a future at Real Madrid and could be sold next summer. With rumours linking Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland to the Santiago Bernabeu next season, Jovic would most likely have to leave.

The 23-year-old striker has not shown his best form since signing for Real Madrid in 2019. But there’s no doubt that he’s a talented striker who just requires more minutes to find his rhythm and confidence in front of goal.

Newcastle United need a striker because of Callum Wilson’s injury record. Despite their takeover, it’s obvious that the Magpies will not be in contention to sign players like Mbappe, Haaland or Lewandowski or any other player of that pedigree. They would have to go for other options and Jovic would be a fantastic addition, it would also be a welcoming challenge for the 23-year-old.

MARCO ASENSIO- FORWARD

Marco Asensio had offers on his table to leave Real Madrid in the summer. The left-footed winger decided against leaving the Spanish capital after Carlo Ancelotti assured the player and his entourage an important role in the squad.

So far, Asensio’s season has not been anything exceptional apart from his stellar hattrick against RCD Mallorca. That is often the case with Marco Asensio, as the talismanic forward tends to have moments of brilliance from time to time but fails to sustain it.

There have been rumours linking Asensio to the Premier League with Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur being interested. Newcastle United could step in for the 25-year-old winger who offers immense versatility as he can play on either wing or even as a number 10 in the midfield.
